MICRORAMAN

The MicroRaman Spectroscopy Laboratory, housed at the Earth Sciences Departement  (DST) at the University of Turin, consists of a Raman spectrometer integrated micro / macro "JobinYvon", Mod. Labram HRVIS and computers for system management.

The spectrometer, owned by the "G. Scansetti " center, was purchased with funds from the San Paolo’s Company and inventoried in the Chemistry Department of of the University of Turin.

FEATURES OF THE INSTRUMENT

The instrument consists of:

optical petrographic microscope Olympus BX41. The microscope is arranged to observations in transmitted and reflected light and is equipped with the polarizer, analyzer, and a color video camera. It’s  characterized by a confocal optical system to be joined to the spectrometer. The objectives 10X, 20X, 50X and 100X (spot of about 2.1 uM) are long working distance. A 4X magnification is also available for macroscopic analysis. The presence of a motorized sample holder table allows the acquisition of two-dimensional maps and profiles. The sample holder support is compatible with thecryoheating table LINKAM THMS600 for the study of fluid inclusions already included in the Department of Mineralogical and Petrological Sciences.

Horiba JobinYvon HR800 spectrometer (complete with two gratings 1800 and 600 grooves / mm) and CCD detector cooled (-70 ° C).

2 polarized laser: red HeNe laser (wavelength 633 nm, power 20 mW) and Nd solid state green laser (wavelength 532 nm, power 250 mW). The system is complete with Edge filters for laser lines 633 nm and 532 nm and a set of interference filters. spectral resolution with grid in 1800: 2 cm-1 for green lasers and 1.5 cm-1 for red laser.

Console to manage the laser beam and the illumination in the microscope.

PC workstation with Labspec 5 software in Windows 7 environment for the acquisition and processing of Raman spectra.

RESERVATION

The Laboratory is available from Monday to Friday from 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM. Each day is divided into two sessions of four hours: one in the morning (from 9:00 AM to 13:00 PM) and one in the afternoon ( from 2:00 to 6:00 PM). The use of the laboratory is only allowed after booking request to one of the managers.
